2) Do you think a will can ensure the care of your pet?
Courts CAN enforce a Pet Trust or The Hirschfeld Pet Protection Agreement (PPA)*.
Courts CANNOT enforce provisions for the care of your pets in your will.

3) What happens if you need someone to care for your pets during your lifetime?
A Will is enforceable ONLY after you die. Pet trusts or PPA’s* are enforceable during your lifetime AND after you die.

The Advantages of the Pet Trust or Pet Protection Agreement*
• These documents will protect your pet when you are traveling, confined to a nursing home or hospital; whenever you are unable to care for your pet.
• You choose the caregiver/guardian.
• You may designate a not-for-profit organization to care for your pets.
• You choose the trustee.
• You choose the beneficiaries.
• You specify the care your pets must receive.
• Pet trusts delve into every aspect of your pet’s life and are more detailed than the PPA*.
• The Hirschfeld Pet Protection Agreement is not costly, does not require a lawyer and takes very little time to prepare.
